The purpose of St. John Lutheran Church as a member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod is to make disciples for Jesus Christ beginning in the areas around Dickson County, Tennessee. The following values are at the heart and core of God’s people at St. John and influence the way we will live and serve as Jesus’ disciples in the Dickson County area:
The Truth of God’s Word: We believe that the Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
God’s Sacraments — Baptism and the Lord’s Supper: We believe that none of us are perfect and we need God’s forgiveness daily. Through His grace, in His word and sacraments, we receive His gifts of salvation and forgiveness. We seek to grow in our faith to be more like Him in our character, words, and actions.
Togetherness in Christ: As disciples of Jesus, we believe that it is important to support and encourage one another as we live lives outside of the church building. Jesus calls us to be His ambassadors in the world around us. By His grace and uplifted by each other, we seek to share his love, truth, and mercy with friends and neighbors.
Good Stewardship: We believe that everything we have comes from God. In gratitude for His grace through Jesus Christ, we seek to be faithful stewards of our time, talents, and treasures. We use them to serve others, support the ministry of the Church, and glorify God. Stewardship is a joyful response to God's love and the faithful management of all He has entrusted to our care.
Prayer: We believe prayer is a gracious gift from God through which we come to Him with praise, thanksgiving, confession, and requests. Through Jesus Christ, God hears His people and answers according to His good and gracious will, strengthening our faith and deepening our trust in Him.
"Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." (Psalm 50:15)
Spreading the Word by Teaching: We believe that God's Word is truth and the primary means by which He brings people to faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, we are committed to teaching the Scriptures faithfully, equipping believers for Christian living, and sharing the Gospel with our community and the world so that all may know the saving love of Christ.
Family - We believe that God established the family for the well-being of His creation and the passing on of the Christian faith from generation to generation. Marriage between one man and one woman, the blessing of children, and the mutual care of family members reflect God's good design. Guided by His Word and strengthened by His grace, families are called to live in love, forgiveness, and faithful service to one another.
