Pastor Nathan joined us as we grilled him on his knowledge of women in the Bible. He did a great job! We all agreed that the highlights of this initial Ladies' Small Group Study was planting ourselves in Scripture, getting to know one another, and sharing this time of growth as a group.

MEMBER PROFILE: KAREN AND GREG
Both Karen and Greg were born in Ohio. Karen was raised on a dairy and grain farm near Plain City and Greg in a rural area near Delaware. In their 45 years of marriage, Karen and Greg lived in Columbus, Chicago, Los Angeles and Nashville. Greg freely admits Southern California has been his favorite location while both consider Chicago their least favorite. Karen and Greg met while attending Ohio State. Both have undergraduate degrees, but Karen also has a master's degree from Ohio State.
Karen has a twin sister and two older sisters, and Greg has one older brother. Greg spent 38 years in the commercial insurance industry as a risk manager. Karen's career was focused on education starting as a high school teacher and finishing as a dean at Nashville State Community College. In between she also taught business classes at a rehabilitation center.
Karen enjoys reading, working outside on the landscaping and walking their two dogs. Greg spends his free time working on his small car collection consisting of four cars. Two of the cars were bought brand new while the two older ones were purchased from previous owners. The Ford was bought from a collector and restored to exactly match the car Greg drove in high school, and the other, a 1977 Firebird, has a pedigreed past which includes being driven on The Rockford Files TV show and being previously owned by comedian Bill Burr. Greg also likes to work outside in his model city that satisfies his closet architect interests. Karen says she needs to keep an eye out to make sure Greg doesn't buy another car or building materials for his city.
Karen and Greg note that they began coming to St. John because "having been involved at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in California and wanting to get back to serving in the church, they transferred from Redeemer as the distance from their home to Redeemer made it more difficult to serve as freely."
A favorite Bible verse of Karen's is Philippians 4:13. When going through life, there are always challenging things that happen. This verse provides comfort in knowing Christ is always with me giving me the strength to persevere.
Greg said the best advice he can offer was given to him by his father and that is always think for yourself and do not become blindly influenced by others or some fad of the day.
Karen and Greg are involved in many activities at St. John. Karen participates in Sunday evening Small Group, Tuesday morning Ladies' Group, and helps with a Sunday School class, and is an offering "counter". Greg is presently Church Council President.
