Member Profile – Debbie Summers-Kirk

Debbie was born in Nashville, Tennessee. She moved to Kingston Springs and then back to Nashville. Debbie now lives in Bon Aqua with her husband John. Debbie has an older brother who resides in Memphis, TN. Her older sister who lived in Murfreesboro recently passed away.

Debbie met her husband John one summer when he was visiting relatives that happen to be Debbie’s neighbors. At the end of summer, John returned to his home in Texas. For three years they kept in touch and had frequent visits back and forth from Texas to Tennessee. They were married on January 8, 2000, in Round Rock, Texas.

Debbie graduated from Cohn High School which is now called Pearl Cohn. She attended Middle Tennessee State University. She worked in the word processing centers at Aladdin Synergistics and Bell South. Debbie could type over 100 WPM !!

She is proud of being the “Wallpaper Lady”.  She says there was life after Bell South. She has been the Wallpaper Lady for 28 years. She has been trying to retire but says “It just won’t happen”. Wallpaper has made a big come back so she continues to be very busy.

According to Debbie moving to the country is one of the best things she has done. She has become a “Farm Girl”, that is a country girl wannabe J. She loves her chickens even if they don’t always lay. Her chickens all have names so they will never be dinner. When one of her chickens dies, she says a prayer over it and it is buried in her back yard.

Debbie has attended several different churches in her life.  She was raised Methodist. Her great grandfather was a Methodist circuit rider minister. Debbie had driven by Saint John many times and one day called and asked more about the church. She then visited the church and found her church home that she had been searching for.

Debbie is deaf. She has a cochlear implant. She reads lips and knows sign language. Her implant (she calls it her contraption) gives her 80% hearing. She had Rheumatic Fever as a child that slowly destroyed the cilla in her cochlea. Before her implant her hearing was only at 3%. She feels her surgery was her miracle. She feels we should honor the physicians for they get their knowledge from God. She feels truly blessed that she now can hear again.

Debbie’s favorite book in Bible in Matthew. She feels Matthew goes more in depth about Jesus’s life.
