St. John Member Spotlight – Hutch & Ginger Hockenberger
Pittsburgh, PA is where both Ginger (Virginia) and Hutch (Howard) were born. Ginger grew up in a suburb of Pittsburgh (Avalon) and Hutch grew up in Zelienople, a small town north of Pittsburgh. Ginger and Hutch both have siblings and friends still in the Pittsburgh area and visit there regularly. They moved to Nashville in 1985 and have lived in Kingston Springs since 1991.
They met while attending Grove City College (PA), married in 1980 and have three children. Their son Colin and his wife Rachel have two sons, Jackson (12), and William (10) and live in Kingston Springs. Their daughter Rachel and granddaughter Ginny (4) reside in Bonaire, GA. Youngest daughter Audra and husband Cooke live in Bellevue with their two sons Tripp (3) and Heath (1). Hattie, our twelve-year-old female Vizsla, rounds out our family.
Ginger enjoys her two bible studies, cooking and finding new recipes, reading, and her Zumba group. Hutch’s hobbies include music, coaching off-season Harpeth High School and Middle school soccer teams, and soccer field maintenance. Both are involved in their non-profit 501c3 Harpeth Benevolence Association which provides post-graduate scholarships and supports the Harpeth Middle and High School Soccer boys and girls programs.
During the 2020 COVID shutdown they visited St. John. Ginger being a lifelong Lutheran until coming to Tennessee, felt right at home with the warm welcome and the traditional service. Hutch was a lifelong Methodist and appreciated the LCMS liturgy and traditional services.
Regarding biblical figures or bible verses, Ginger appreciates David as one of the most prominent and complex figures in the Bible. He started out as a humble shepherd, acknowledged his sins, sought God for help over and over again, and always praised God. Hutch enjoys both old and New Testaments. They both enjoy watching the recent biblical television series The Chosen and House of David.
Looking back on things that make Ginger and Hutch smile is watching their children’s families grow in size but also in faith; Hutch’s successful music career in the 1980’s (videos are still on YouTube), and Ginger enjoyed dancing (in cowboy boots!) to his music. Tennessee led to successful career choices for both.
St. John Lutheran is a hidden gem of a church, and they are hopeful more folks will visit and make St. John their church home.
